The Knoxville Wrestling Squad scored a convincing win in its season opener over Nevada on Thursday night 60-24. The Panthers and Cubs traded six point results in the first three matches with Nevada winning two of those to take an early 12-6 lead, then the Panthers ran off 18 straight points to go up front 24-12. The Cubs would win the next two of three matches by pin fall to get to within 30-24 before the Panthers closed the match with five straight wins by the max points to put the dual away. Getting wins for the Panthers were Tre DeRaad, Dane Gullion, Chase Rider, Steven McCreery, Tristan Sinnard, Kale Kincaid, Daniel Gorskikh, Wayne Johnston, Jayden Montalvo, and Regan Roberts. Coach Skylar Spaur told KNIA/KRLS Sports he thought for the first time out everything went as expected.
Spaur: “I was really anxious to see some of our new kids. The matches didn’t go their way and they were really close maybe one mistake from flipping it or getting it more competitive.”
Knoxville will head to Nodaway Valley for the first tournament of the season on Saturday.
