An early season test for the Pella boys wrestling team shows some work yet to do in the coming months as they fell to two strong preseason contenders in Class 3A Thursday. The Dutch lost to Southeast Polk 67-6 and Urbandale 48-24 in a triangular to open the new year.

In the opener, Pella couldn’t find much footing against the periennial powerhouses in the Rams, with Logan Bruxvoort (165) finding the lone pinfall win for the green and white in the contest. The Dutch had a bit more success against the J-Hawks, with victories by Michael Muller (126 – Major Decision 17-6), Damion Clark (132 – Decision 7-1), T.R. Putz (150 – pinfall), Kieran Van Voorst (215 – pinfall), and Kaiden Hol (285 – 6-5 decision).

Pella falls to 0-2 in dual meets and heads to their first tournament Saturday in Williamsburg.
