It was split fortunes for the Pella Christian basketball teams as they split with Oskaloosa to begin the Little Hawkeye Conference rotation, as heard live on the KRLS2 stream Friday night. The Eagles boys pulled away late in a 66-34 win, while the Eagles gave up an 11-point 4th quarter advantage to fall to the Indians girls 53-50.
The PC boys, on top of their high hopes in the Class 2A bracket, find themselves chasing a conference title, and started strong with their deep and talented squad. While the home team was able to pull the contest to an eight-point margin in the 3rd quarter, the Eagles surged ahead over the final 12 minutes of the game. Tysen DeVries and Dane Geetings each scored 16 points and Caleb Van Arendonk added nine points and nine rebounds. P.C.’s boys are 2-0 and return to the court Monday at PCM, a game that can be heard on 92.1 KRLS at 7 p.m.
Pella Christian’s girls pulled a 12-0 run to earn an 11-point lead early in the 4th quarter after 25 lead changes or ties with the Osky girls in the first three quarters of the opener, only for Dasia Foster to take over with 17 points and eight rebounds in the 4th. Foul trouble chased Rachel Kacmarynski and her 22 points of the floor at about the same time the Indians began to mount their comeback. Pella Christian also received 11 points from Maggie Heinen. The Eagles fall to 1-4 overall and are off until a home game out-of-conference Thursday with Van Meter.
