Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Knoxville concluded another successful mission trip to Agua Prieta, Mexico in October.
A group from the church in Knoxville makes the journey down to Agua Prieta every other year on average to build an adobe brick structure for a family in need that they will use as a home. Agua Prieta is a border town directly south of Douglas, AZ. The group left Knoxville on October 12th of this year and built the entire structure in four days, to then return to Knoxville on October 19th. The home is built brick by brick and the team from the church then presents the home to the family.
This mission trip was originally organized by Rod Braun, who saw an opportunity for the church when visiting the area many years ago. The church continues to go back to try and provide more shelters for families in need. Mary Ann Sterling who went on the trip this year says she gained a lot from the opportunity.
“When we started out and me being a new person doing this, you go thinking I’m going to give myself up for someone else so they can have a home. You feel like you’re going to be a provider for something these people haven’t had, but when you leave you are so humbled and feel like you have received so much more.”
