There’s not much else to be added to the legacy of one of Iowa’s greatest ever track and field athletes and coaches, but another honor was earned by the legend Saturday.

Randy Wilson was inducted into the Iowa Track and Field Officials Association Hall of Fame. While Wilson is best known for his time on the track and pursuit of Olympic glory, followed by years of coaching Knoxville and Pella athletes, he’s also been involved in the sport as a meet official. Wilson has been in the role after Mike Cunningham first introduced him to that part of the sport nearly 40 years ago.

Since then, Wilson has officiated at a variety of meets at the high school and collegiate level, including the annual Drake Relays and Iowa Track and Field State Championships. Wilson was inducted at an event where his fellow coaches from Pella High School received another round of lofty honors — Brent Van Hauen received 2023 Class 3A boys coach of the year, and his girls team counterpart Dak Rasmussen was an At Large Selection. Pella Cross Country Head Coach Doug Cutler is the 2023 Girls 3A Cross Country Coach of the Year as well.

Wilson will be featured on an upcoming edition of Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page later this week.
