Both bowling and wrestling teams from Pella High School were in tournament action Saturday.

Pella Girls Wrestlers 3rd at Newton Tournament
Pella continued a strong start to the winter girls wrestling season, placing 3rd at the Newton Cardinal Classic. Pella took three 1st place spots, including Serenity Turner (105), Emmalee Spurgeon (155), and Elaine Babcock (190). Isabella Smith (115) took 2nd in her weight class and Andie Branson (170) placed 3rd. Head Coach Adam Hale:

” Our aggressiveness was up across the board and we did a much better job of staying active and on our toes. It was nice to see Serenity get on top of the podium as she hadn’t quite found her way there yet this year. Her urgency was up a bit today, and that made a big difference for her. Emmalee came away with the title in what is so far her toughest bracket of the season. For Elaine, we coaches were really happy to see her getting to her shots from her feet a bit more today. Isabella wrestled well today as she was actually just about to take the lead in her finals match when her opponent adjusted well to shift things. Andie did a nice job bouncing back from a first round loss to wrestle all the way back to eventually beat that same opponent she lost to. She just made a couple of small, but key adjustments that paid off really well for her.”

Pella is back in action at Norwalk Tuesday.
