
Led by a pair of individual champions, the Norwalk boys wrestling team placed third at Saturday’s Keith Young Invitational in Cedar Falls. The Norwalk boys and girls bowling teams were also in action and defeated Creston for their first dual wins of the season.
Nine Warrior wrestlers placed in the top four at Cedar Falls as the team placed third out of 16 schools with 166 points, trailing only Dubuque Hempstead with 184.5 and Ankeny Centennial with 177. Norwalk’s champions were Tyler Harper at 113 pounds and Kolton Borcherding-Johnson at 285. Harper, who is ranked 2nd in Class 3A, scored a 3-2 win over Centennial’s Cale Vandermark in the final round. Borcherding-Johnson won the heavyweight title match with a pin of North Scott’s Dawson Rheingans.
Tyler Stanford placed third for Norwalk at 175, going 3-1 with two pins. Six other Warriors placed fourth: Asaiah Martinez at 120, Aiden Moret 126, Tate Turner 144, Liam McLaughlin 150, Kadan Borcherding-Johnson 157 and Victor Esparza 190.
Norwalk returns to action Thursday night, hosting a 5:30 double dual against Oskaloosa and Southeast Polk.
The Norwalk bowling teams both improved to 1-2 on Saturday with dominant wins over Creston at the Air Lanes Bowling Center in Des Moines. The Warrior boys won 2660 to 1910; the girls prevailed 1906 to 1543.
Andrew Winfrey had the top two-game series of the day with a 448, rolling scores of 225 and 223. The Norwalk boys’ top series scores also included: Brytan Bassman (394), Gavin Housley (370) and Tanner Housley (339). The Norwalk girls were led by Ellery Racz with a series of 344, followed by Elivia Stout 273, Bridget Curran 249 and Atto White 243.
The Warriors’ next meet is Saturday, December 9th when they host Oskaloosa at Air Lanes Bowling Center, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Basketball doubleheader vs. Winterset
The Norwalk basketball teams are back in action Monday night, hosting Winterset for a girl-boy doubleheader at 6:15. The Class 4A third-ranked Norwalk girls enter the night with a 5-0 record while Winterset is 1-1. The Warrior boys are 1-1 and Winterset is 2-0.
