central-mural

Central College recently installed their second student-designed sticker mural on the windows of the Roe Center in an effort to decrease bird fatalities on campus.

The window, which faces north, has caused significant bird deaths for many years. Professor of Biology Russ Benedict and Professor of Art Mathew Kelly collaborated with students in the biology and art programs to create and design CollidEscape stickers for this window. In addition to its primary goal, Kelly said that the sticker mural is a great way to highlight the work that students are doing at Central.

“The thing I liked a lot about this project, firstly the primary goal of stopping the bird mortality from the windows, but the next one was also celebrating some of the student work. The kind of research students are doing on the side, may not be class related, but to have images like this on campus and up for at least 10 years or more, however long the decals last, I think students are pretty proud of that, and so we’re proud of the work that they’re doing. So, this is a way to celebrate their work as well.”
