After a tough week to open the full basketball season, a needed reset was found by both Pella teams, as the girls and boys dominated Washington in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS Friday.

The Dutch boys ran away with a 90-36 contest, while the girls overcame a slow start on offense to pull away for a 49-18 victory. Pella’s boys found their first win behind a complete handling of the Demons, putting together a 28-7 first quarter and not looking back. Luke Hardman led the Dutch with 18 points and says he was happy to see his teammates playing loose after a rough pair of openers last week.

Austin Schulte added 15 points and five rebounds on a night where all Dutch in uniform got to play and the continuous clock rolled through the entire second half.

The girls game featured dominating defense from the Dutch on a night they collected 47 rebounds, but it wasn’t until Tristan Gordon led a 2nd quarter surge that the score became more lopsided.

Pella Girls Head Coach Blaine Forsythe said it was a nice bounce back after playing potential state tournament teams last week.

“I appreciate the way our players responded to two losses last week. We bounced back and found a way to get a victory tonight. On a night we didn’t shoot the ball very well we were able to play lights out defense and dominate the boards. I like the way we valued the basketball. We only had nine turnovers, which allowed us to get open looks.”

Girls Game Leaders (Unofficial):
Tristan Gordon 11 pts, 5 reb, 2 asts, 3 stls
Madi Harmon 10 pts, 3 reb, 1 stl
Jenna Oltman 6 pts, 7 rebs, 3 asts

Pella’s girls are up to 3-2 and travel to Carlisle Thursday evening. The Dutch boys are 1-2 overall and are off until they rejoin the girls in Fort Madison Saturday (KRLS2).
