The Pella Christian bowling teams feature several athletes that are new to the sport, and with that has come a lot of time working on improving their game.

The Eagles girls squad has seven students out for the sport this winter, with just three athletes returning from last year’s team. Meanwhile, the Pella Christian boys have five returners out this year, with 10 total athletes competing. Eagles head coach Rod Blunck says that while the team is still learning the game, he’s been pleased with his team’s progress.

“They really want to improve and we’ve got a couple of guys that are experimenting throwing a hook this season that will help them a lot with good pin action and things. So, it’s basically just sticking with the basics and working on your first shot, so you can make adjustments for the second shot and learning the game.”

The Pella Christian bowling teams will look to pick up their first wins of the season on Saturday, when they host Pella in a Two Rivers Bowling Conference showdown at Statesmen Lanes in Oskaloosa.
