The Indianola City Council discussed the South K Street Project at their meeting Monday, with a public hearing date set for a special meeting on December 28th for the final details of the project. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News the project initially was projected to cost $7.2 million, however with changes made from feedback from the property owners in the area it is now $2.9 million. Reeves said the changes include moving from concrete to asphalt, and with that change comes the city wanting to make sure the investment put into the road is a one that lasts the test of time.

“We want to have a product that is going to last. So even though it is asphalt vs concrete, we want to make sure we have a good, strong, sub-base that is going to last a long time. We want to make sure we are mitigating the impacts on each of the residents that are out there, and that when all is said and done we’ve built a safe road for the traveling public.”

Other concerns brought forth by residents during the project planning process included dust control, ditch size, impact on nearby properties, and traffic volume.
