While record highs remain possible across much of the state today and Friday, an upcoming cool down will not necessary feel like winter has arrived. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says warmer than normal temperatures are generally expected for most of the remainder of 2023.

“These are not going to be tropical temperatures, but, for what we expect in December the average temperature is 25 degrees when you consider the daytime high and the overnight low, the signal is showing a strong possibility of higher than normal temperatures.”

He says an extremely dry and generally warm November has largely carried over into the final month of the year, and worsened drought conditions at the same time, and most outlooks from the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center don’t show any major precipitation chances in the near term.
