Those who enjoy a White Christmas finally got their wish in 2022 after nearly a decade with one, as well over an inch of the white stuff was on the ground. And while it’s two weeks away from the holiday, chances are looking lower this year for a repeat.
State Climatologist Justin Glisan says for the remainder of December, general trends over the course of that time show above average temperatures and below average precipitation, which is shown in projections from the Climate Prediction Center.
Glisan says while there have been some major December snow events in the past decade, they’ve become far less frequent, and the majority of snow potential in winter seasons now tends to be in January and February.
According to new data released by the National Weather Service, Marion and Warren Counties generally have a 30-40% chance of at least one inch of snow on the ground on December 25th.
