A Perry man was arrested in Marion County this past weekend after trying to evade law enforcement.
At approximately 2:15 am Saturday morning, a Knoxville Police Sergeant observed a black Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound on Highway 92. Through prior law enforcement interactions, the sergeant recognized the driver as 24-year old Sean Gelles. Dispatch advised that Gelles had a suspended driver’s license, and police attempted to perform a traffic stop. Gelles failed to stop and is accused of accelerating the vehicle, reaching speeds of 110 mph in a 65 mph zone and 80 mph in a 50 mph zone. The impala continued into Melcher-Dallas, where sight of the vehicle was lost. A Marion County Deputy was able to relocate the vehicle, where it again attempted to elude law enforcement. A tire deflation device was utilized and forced the fleeing vehicle into a ditch. Gelles is accused of then running from the vehicle, before being taken into custody by law enforcement a short distance from the vehicle.
Gelles is charged with a Class D felony for eluding – speeding 25 mph over the limit, a simple misdemeanor for interference with official acts, two non-scheduled violations for reckless driving and driving with a suspended license, and a scheduled violation for speeding in excess of 21 mph in a 55mph zone.
