Multiple Simpson College men’s track and field athletes saw career-bests and high placements at the Iowa State Holiday Invite on Saturday. Joseph Sams came within .01 seconds of the 300 meter school record held by teammate Max Cleveland, finishing in a blistering 35.65. Cleveland turned in a fine performance in a field full of premier Division I hurdlers, taking fourth in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.10.
Sams moved into second all-time in school history in the 300, while Blake DePhillips was not far behind in a time of 35.79, good for third all-time. Brendan Godbout also joined the top 10 all-time in the event, clocking a 36.23 to tie for fourth all-time. Cleveland placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles prelims and finals, running near-identical times of 8.09 and 8.10. Kendrick Achebe ran a career-best 7.06 in the 60 meters, coming up just .01 seconds off the top 10 in school history.
