A Pella graduate was recognized for his walk-on journey with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Senior Nick DeJong was one of three recipients on the team of the Brett Greenwood Award, and the only one on offense. Since 2011, the Greenwood award goes to walk-ons who have had successful careers with the program. DeJong played in 10 games, including seven starts in 2023. He was a third-team All-Big Ten honoree by the league coaches. The former Pella All-State football player and 3A state shot put champion is working toward his final game in black and gold in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on January 1st against Tennessee.
