The PCM boys and girls basketball teams both fell to the Roland-Story Norseman in a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader Friday night heard live on the KRLS3 stream.
The Mustang girls struggled to put together much offense at all in the contest and ultimately fell to the #11 ranked Norseman 72-44 for just their second loss of the season. Tori Lindsay led the PCM girls in scoring on the night with 16 total points and Addison Steenhoek had 13. PCM Coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez says it just wasn’t her team’s night.
“I would say defensively we just weren’t quite there tonight. Everyone talks about our seven game win streak and asks how important it is, but it’s not important at all. We just kept trying to get better every day and this is the best team we’ve played so far this season. I don’t think the score was indicative of what we are compared to them. We were off and they were really on so kudos to them for coming into a tough environment and getting a win. Just wasn’t our night.”
The loss drops the PCM girls to 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.
The PCM boys led a majority of the game against an undefeated Roland-Story team but ultimately dropped the close contest in the end 41-38. Jonovan Wilkinson’s 26 points for the Norseman helped edge them past the Mustangs in a hard fought battle by both teams. PCM junior Gavin Van Gorp led the team with 16 points. The Mustang defense shined in the loss and Mustang head coach Tony Ford was proud of how his team played.
“Defense covers up sometimes a bad offense or an offense that is off one night and it keeps us in every game whether we’re at home or on the road. We have a lot of talented guys on our team and we think we can rotate guys in and out and everybody on our team can play defense so we try to capitalize on that.”
The loss drops the PCM boys to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in the conference. Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to South Hamilton.
