Fire crews responded to a residential fire in Knoxville Sunday evening.

At 5:40 pm the Knoxville Fire Department and Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department were dispatched to 1302 Middle Street for visible flames at the home. Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman says that the fire started on the outside of the home and that is where a majority of the damage occurred.

“We had a residential structure fire here. It actually was an electrical short from the junction box just outside of the main panel. It started on the exterior of the building and crews got here to get water on it and get it stopped just before it went to the inside of the building. Most of the damage is external but it will be a lengthy repair process for all of the wiring to be replaced and rebuilt. Red Cross is going to provide assistance for the family tonight, and that’s where we’re at right now. “

Both fire departments were assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Knoxville Police Department. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS radio for potential updates on this fire.
