The Knoxville School Board approved a bid for the demolition of the old middle school building at their meeting Monday night.
After reviewing four different bids for the demolition project ranging from $329,000 to over a million dollars, the board ultimately awarded the bid to Midwest Demolition Contractors for $329,000. The City of Knoxville and the school district continue to work on a collaborative effort to use the site of the former middle school as the site for a new public safety/city hall facility. Knoxville Community School District Superintendent Cassi Pearson says she is grateful for the bid offer they received from Midwest Demolition Contractors.
“We felt very fortunate to have four bids and to have one that was such a significantly lower amount than the other three. All four of the companies that put bids in were at a pre-bid meeting. They got to walk the space and have all their questions answered. One of the companies, Midwest Demolition Contractors, really came forward and sharpened their pencil and gave us a great deal.”
The demolition is scheduled to be completed by April 1st, 2024 according to the contract.
