Preparing for just their second home game of the season, the Pella Christian boys basketball team is putting an emphasis on defensive effort ahead of their matchup with Newton on Thursday.

The Eagles, who are 4-2 through their first six contests, are 3-0 in games in which they hold their opponents under 50 points. On the other hand, Pella Christian is just 1-3 in matchups where their opponents cross the 50 point mark. Their one such win came in the season opener on November 28th, when they beat Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 77-51. Going into their contest with a Newton squad that is averaging 54.2 points per game, Eagles senior Dane Geetings believes that their effort defensively will determine how they enter Christmas Break.

“I think we’re going back to effort again. I think it’s all going to be the effort on the defensive and what can we do defensively to disrupt them and then turn that into offense. And if we can do that I think we’ll have a good night. ”

The Pella Christian boys basketball team hosts their final game before Christmas break against Newton tomorrow night in the back end of a girl-boy Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.
