The Simpson women’s and men’s basketball teams fell in their respective Cruzin Classic tournament games in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday, the women to Gustavus 64-62 and the men to St. Vincent 79-78.
The Storm women fell behind at the half 31-21, but dominated in the third to get back within two points, as the two teams matched each other shot for shot in the fourth. Molly Lutmer led four players in double figures, as Haley Rasmussen, Cassie Nash, and Shaniah Temple all had 10.
The Storm men faced heartbreak, as they gave up 40 points in the paint but stuck with the 12-1 Bearcats shot for shot, but only falling by a point despite shooting 23-28 from the free-throw line. Andrew Gibb led four players in double figures with 20, as Easton Darling had 18, Andrew Curran 15, and Jack Hutchinson 14.
Both Storm teams fall to 5-6 on the season.
