Rounds of rain showers will continue across the region through this afternoon. According to the National Weather Service, many rain gauges should top an inch of precipitation since yesterday. Much drier and cooler conditions will settle into the region after the holiday, with daytime highs in the mid 30s to lower 40s through the New Year, and little to no precipitation expected. Those with travel plans toward western Iowa or to neighboring states in that direction may run into a mix of precipitation today and heavier snow further out into the Dakotas, western Minnesota, and Nebraska.
