The Norwalk boys wrestling team is off to a good start in the 2023-2024 season, sporting a 4-0 record in Little Hawkeye Conference duals and an 8-5 mark overall.

Four of the Warriors’ dual losses came at the prestigious Battle of Waterloo tournament and the fifth came against Class 3A power Southeast Polk. Norwalk has also competed in tough traditional tournaments at Cedar Falls and Johnston.

Individually, the Warriors are led by senior 113-pounder Tyler Harper, who is ranked second in 3A. Harper is undefeated on the season, going 18-0 with a team-high 11 pins. Heavyweight Kolton Borcherding-Johnson is also ranked high and has backed it up with a 17-2 record and nine wins by fall.

The following six Norwalk individuals have also recorded at least nine varsity wins on the season: Dominic Tigner 18-4 with four pins at 165 and 157; Tyler Stanford 15-7 with seven pins at 175; Harrison Tripp 14-8 with nine pins at 215; Tate Turner 12-4 with six pins at 144 and 138; Liam McLaughlin 12-9 with four pins at 150; and Aiden Moret 9-6 with five pins at 132.

The Warriors’ next meet is the Marshalltown Quad on Thursday, January 4, at 5:30. They will wrestle the Bobcats, Des Moines East and Des Moines North/Hoover.
