Going into the holiday break, the Pella Christian boys basketball team started showing improvements in their ball movement offensively.
Starting the season with a 3-2 record, the Eagles were averaging 14.4 assists per game and 15.8 turnovers per game through their first five games of the year. Pella Christian saw improvements to both numbers in their last two games before Christmas break. Defeating Wilton and Newton just before the holidays, the Eagles averaged 20.5 assists and only 10.5 turnovers in those two wins. Pella Christian head coach JD Boer said that the team’s trust in one another has helped with the improved ball movement and added that he believes they can still get better at reducing turnovers.
“We’ve started to move the ball much better. Our turnover numbers are still probably higher than I’d like him to be, so I think that’s a pretty big area of improvement for us, but there’s always a fine line there because you don’t want guys playing scared either. You want them to make sure that they’re going to try to make plays.”
The Eagles are currently 5-2 on the season, and they will look to pick up win number six on Friday, January 5th at cross-town rival Pella.
