Developing and sticking to a budget is a key to be financially smart in 2024.

One of the top ways to stay on top of finances this upcoming year is sticking to a budget or to review spending and saving from 2023. Assistant Vice President of Retail Banking with Leighton State Bank Denise Becker says there is importance in developing a strong savings balance.

“There are several ways you can be smart with your savings. A general rule is that you should pay yourself first. A good thing to do is to have an automatic payroll deduction go into your savings account. Every time you get paid. You don’t see it and you don’t lose it.”

She encourages everyone to make sure they have adequate money in an emergency fund, tackle debt with the highest interest rate first, track savings goals, and continue to develop a comfortable retirement plan.
