January 1st fell on a Sunday one year ago, and thus, that extended the stay of the Pella Marching Dutch in their third ever trip to Pasadena. On January 2nd, 2023, the Pella Marching Dutch participated in the Rose Parade for the third time in school history; the first Iowa High School to hold that honor. More than 200 students and their families joined the directors of the band on Colorado Blvd for the more than five mile march in the world’s most famous parade. The Pella Marching Dutch followed up the experience this past fall with a successful competition season, with “Wild” defeating all other Iowa high schools in every competition the elite ensemble performed in. Find coverage from the Rose Parade from KNIA/KRLS here. The radio station was there wire-to-wire for the nearly week long experience that included a march in Disneyland, performance of their field show “Kiss from a Rose” at the annual Bandfest, and other fun experiences in Los Angeles.
