While the weather has been relatively calm this winter, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) remains prepared for winter weather conditions to hit Iowa roadways.
Craig Bargfrede, Winter Operations Administrator for the Iowa DOT, says that despite the lack of snowfall across the state, their department requires that their equipment be ready to go for any snow event that may occur.
“According to our policy we have to maintain our equipment in a ready status to be able to go out and react to any type of winter storm event that comes our way. So, our staff out there in the garages across the state have been able to continue to maintain that equipment and keep it up in a ready status, like I mentioned, that they can then go out and treat the roadways when we do get winter events.”
