The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City will be hosting a pair of events this Saturday.
The first event will be the NatureTots program celebrating National Bird Day from 10:30-11:30 am. Children ages 3-5, accompanied by an adult, are invited to attend the free educational event, and participate in listening to a story, making a nature craft, and exploring the tallgrass prairie if the weather permits. The Nature Tots programs at the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge are designed for younger learners, with a focus on engaging children’s senses and using hands-on and interactive activities.
In the afternoon, photographer Mike Cox will lead an indoor photography tips and tricks session from 1-2:30 pm. The photography session is open to all ages and skill levels. Recommended equipment for the session includes a camera, tripod, wide angle lens, and a remote shutter release. Smartphone photographers are also encouraged to attend the event.
Registration for both events is requested and to register or get additional information, contact the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge at 515-994-3400 or email nancy_corona@fws.gov. The refuge is located off highway 163 in Prairie City at 9981 Pacific Street.
