Two of Iowa’s top high school basketball scorers this season both play for Norwalk in junior Bailey Birmingham and senior Redek Born.

Birmingham, who needed just three games to score her first 100 points, leads Class 4A with 269 total points and 24.5 points per game, ranking fifth in the entire state according to gobound.com. Birmingham has already made 85 free throws in 11 games and also leads the seventh-ranked Warriors with 22 three-pointers, 2.5 assists per game, 2.3 steals per game and five blocked shots.

Born, who surpassed 1,000 career points in a December 12 game at Lewis Central, ranks fifth in Class 4A (Iowa’s largest boys division) with 161 total points and 13th in 4A with 17.9 points per game. He also paces the Warrior boys with averages of five rebounds and four assists per contest.

Both Norwalk basketball teams will return to competition on Tuesday, January 9, for a girl-boy doubleheader at Newton. The Warrior boys are 7-2 overall and currently lead the Little Hawkeye Conference with a mark of 4-0. The Warriors girls are 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the Little Hawkeye, their only conference loss coming at the hands of top-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes.
