The PCM girls basketball team defeated the Nevada Cubs Friday night as the boys team came up short in a Heart of Iowa Conference varsity doubleheader.
The Mustang girls had their best offensive night of the season thus far defeating the Cubs 59-48. Sophomore Tori Lindsay led PCM in scoring with 18 points while junior Addison Steenhoek had 17. The win moved the Mustang girls to 8-4 overall on the season and 5-2 in the conference. PCM head girls basketball coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez was proud of her team’s effort in the contest.
“What I’m really proud of is the team effort. If you look at the points tonight we went 9, 9, 18, 17, 6, and Elle Davis rolled her ankle so we didn’t have her out there much. Overall just team grittiness. They were locked in and they knew what they wanted to do tonight and we got it done.”
The PCM boys struggled to come up with much offense against the tough Cubs defense as they fell in their contest 63-41. The Mustang boys were led in scoring by Kaleb Devries and Easton Webb who both had seven points. The loss drops the PCM boys to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The PCM girls will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Oskaloosa and the PCM boys will be back in action on Thursday at Earlham.
