The Norwalk boys and girls bowling teams both picked up close wins over Bondurant-Farrar on Saturday, the Warrior boys wrestlers went 2-1 in a home dual tournament and the girls wrestlers finished 1-2 at Carlisle.

BOWLING

At Air Lanes Bowling Center in Des Moines, both Norwalk squads evened their dual record at 3-3 with tight decisions against the Bluejays. The boys prevailed by just 27 total pins, 2678-2651. The girls won by 67 pins, 1983-1916.

The Norwalk boys trailed by 79 pins following the first round of individual bowling, rallied to lead by four pins after the third Baker game, then came back again in the fifth and final Baker game. Sophomore Tanner Housley led a balanced Warrior scorecard with a two-game series of 378 and a high game of 210. The series scores also included Brytan Bassman’s 369, Andrew Winfrey’s 359 and Jude Soper’s 344. During the Baker game series, Winfrey rolled 11 strikes while Bassman and Housley hit back-to-back strikes during the third and fourth frames of all five games.

In the girls’ dual, Norwalk led by 76 pins after the individual rounds and posted consistent Baker scores to hold off the Bluejays. Juniors Julia Palen, Elivia Stout and Ellery Racz paced the Warriors with series scores of 322, 307 and 258, respectively. Palen, who had the team’s high game of 182, bowled seven strikes during the Baker games.

Norwalk’s next meet is against Urbandale on Wednesday at Gameday Lanes inside the Merle Hay Mall.

WRESTLING

The Norwalk boys wrestlers improved to 13-6 on Saturday, placing second in their home dual tournament. Ankeny Centennial won the meet with a 3-0 record, followed by Norwalk at 2-1, Knoxville 1-2, and Cedar Rapids Washington 0-3. The Warriors started the day with wins of 57-16 over Washington and 60-18 over Knoxville, then lost to Centennial 47-21. They combined to win 18 of 23 contested matches in the first two duals, including 14 pins and three major decisions.

Norwalk’s Tyler Harper, Liam McLaughlin and Kolton Borcherding-Johnson all went 3-0 with two pins on the day, with McLaughlin adding a major. Seven other Warriors finished 2-1: Aiden Moret, Tate Turner, Maksym Rooney-Kozak, Dominic Tigner, Tyler Stanford, Victor Esparza and Harrison Tripp. Moret and Stanford both recorded two wins by fall and Tripp’s pin against Knoxville required just 11 seconds.

The Norwalk girls finished 1-2 for third place at the four-team Carlisle meet, which was won by the host Wildcats. The Warriors defeated Indianola 33-24 and lost to Carlisle (64-12) and Williamsburg (54-15). Norwalk picked up four forfeit wins vs. Indianola while adding a Madelyn Carroll pin and a 4-3 win by Masie Silvius. Madison Froehle and Silvius both won by fall against Carlisle. Katie Liedtke and Silvius scored pins vs. Williamsburg while Froehle won by decision.

Both Norwalk wrestling teams return to action on Thursday. The boys travel to Urbandale to take on the J-Hawks and Waukee Northwest at 5:00 p.m. The girls head to Pella for a quad at 5:30.
