The Indianola City Council swore in two new members at their meeting Tuesday in Melissa Sones and Steve Armstrong, while returning member Josh Rabe also took the oath of office. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News there is always a transition period with new council members, but the city tries to mitigate that by getting council members up to speed quickly.

“We’ve made a really smooth transition with Indianola University where we had classes on city government earlier in the year before the election even started. After the election, we had a council retreat with both the old and new council participating, establishing the vision for the years coming up and helping to make it a smooth baton handoff. Explaining why decisions have been made in the past, and bringing on new ideas and fresh perspective.”

Reeves also said the city appreciates the service and professionalism of the outgoing council members.
