The Knoxville City Council approved the authorization to apply for a Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund grant in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Marion County at their meeting Tuesday night.
Habitat for Humanity requested $25,000 from the city as part of their 2024 Critical Home Repair Program. In 2023, the city council approved a contribution of $25,700 to Habitat for Humanity of Marion County as part of their funding application to the Central Iowa Housing Trust Fund (CIHTF). Habitat for Humanity was able to complete critical repairs to 12 qualifying Knoxville homes. The money for this will come out of the city’s low moderate income (LMI) housing fund. Knoxville City Manger Heather Ussery said it has been great to partner with Habitat for Humanity.
“I think it’s a great program and with habitat administering it, for staff here it’s really simple. There isn’t additional work for the city but we were able to utilize those LMI funds that have been sitting there for some time and really be able to help with that program immensely.”
The vote passed unanimously at the meeting.
