ken-rozenboom-2023

Year two of the 90th general assembly in the Iowa Legislature starts today, and many major priorities for a near supermajority of Republicans were signed by Governor Kim Reynolds last winter.

District 19 State Senator Ken Rozenboom believes this session will not only continue unfinished business from last spring, but also carry a few new priorities into 2024. Rozenboom says speeding up the phases of tax cuts passed over the last few years will be top of mind, especially as it relates to income, after property tax changes were implemented for the current fiscal year.

From there, Rozenboom — who serves as the Senate Education Committee Chair, anticipates a review of potential changes to Area Education Agencies, citing GOP concerns over administrative costs and other functions that he believes has gone beyond the scope of supporting special needs students across the state. Rozenboom also expects some sort of package to increase teacher salaries, but expects the language of the proposal to come from the Governor’s office Tuesday during the condition of the state address.
