As work to remove snow from county roadways continues after Monday and Tuesday’s snowfall, the Marion County Roads Department is preparing for another snow event heading into the weekend.

Per the county ordinance, county-owned motor graders and snow plows will not be in operation after 8:00 pm and will not begin before 4:00 am during snow events. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian says that the hours of operation allows drivers time to rest, given the intense nature of the work they are doing.

“Not only are you out there driving for 16 hours, it’s typically white knuckle type work. You’re dealing with motorists coming at you, passing you, going around you, dealing with people removing snow out of their driveway, watching out for the tractor or the guy with the snowblower and the wind and the low visibility and all the other things that you have to watch out for as a plow driver. So, it’s intense work and you’re physically exhausted at the end of the day.”
