The Simpson women’s basketball team took care of business against Buena Vista at home Wednesday evening 75-55, while the Storm men had a comeback to force overtime but fell 94-91.
The Simpson women exploded offensively in the first half, leading 20-11 after the first and then scored 31 points in the second quarter to lead 51-18 at the break, and the Storm would hold on for the win, outscoring the Beavers 38-18 in the paint. Haley Rasmussen led four Storm athletes in double-figures with 13.
The Storm men found themselves down double-figures at halftime that carried into late in the contest, but found a way to come back with three-point shooting from Jack Hutchinson to force overtime, but would eventually fall in the extra period. Andrew Gibb led the team with 28, while Hutchinson scored 21.
The women are now 10-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the men are 7-9 and 1-6. Both teams wrap up the first round robin of conference action Saturday at Loras.
