The decision to cancel school due to winter weather conditions is not an easy one, and includes multiple factors including weather, road conditions, and safety for staff and students. Indianola School District Superintendent Ted Ihns tells KNIA News the process involves the contributions of multiple experts including the National Weather Service, the school transportation director, and other superintendents in the area before making any decision.
“We talk about the roads, not only in town but out of town, and how they are prior to any potential snowfall. And ultimately it comes down to, what is best and safest for all of our staff and students to get to school on time.”
