The Norwalk wrestling and bowling teams combined for just one dual victory on Thursday night in road competitions at Pella, Urbandale and Osceola.
The Warrior girls wrestlers earned the lone win, going 1-2 at the Pella Quad. They defeated Newton 36-21 while losing to English Valleys 37-36 and Pella 48-21. The English Valleys dual was decided on tiebreaker criteria. Norwalk’s Katie Liedtke, Masie Silvius and Hannah Smith each recorded two pins on the night while Madison Froehle and Madelyn Blomgren both won once by fall. Madelyn Carroll added a win by decision.
The Norwalk boys wrestlers finished 0-2 at Urbandale, losing 39-25 to the host J-Hawks and 45-18 against Waukee Northwest. The Warriors are now 13-8 on the season. Norwalk 113-pounder Tyler Harper stayed unbeaten with a pair of first-period pins and Dominic Tigner also went 2-0 with a major decision and a regular decision. Aiden Moret, Matthew Handley and Victor Esparza all won by decision vs. Urbandale and Tate Turner, Liam McLaughlin and Tyler Stanford earned wins against Northwest.
The Norwalk bowling squads lost to Clarke at Alley Bowl, both dropping to 3-4 on the season. The Indians won the boys dual 2944-2630 and took the girls dual 2459-1990.
Friday basketball games called off
The Norwalk basketball teams’ girl-boy doubleheader vs. Oskaloosa scheduled for Friday night has been postponed due to the second winter storm of the week. The Warrior cagers have still not played a game since December 21. The fate of Saturday’s wrestling meets is still undecided. The Norwalk boys are slated to compete at Ankeny while the girls have a tournament at Waukee Northwest.
