A crazy and disjointed week with two winter storms has forced the postponement of the Knoxville Panthers vs Cancer event. The event was supposed to be Friday as winter weather coupled with bitter cold temperatures forced Knoxville officials to move the game to Monday January 22nd. With the exception of the silent auction, which ended last night all of the other events will still take place next Monday including the girls/boys basketball doubleheader with Clarke and the honors ceremony in between games. Girls Coach Matt Ritchhart tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it is not an ideal situation, but with the winter weather the way it has been, it was wise to postpone.
Ritchhart: “It’ll be a special day, hopefully we can get it in, and next week it’s supposed to be -15 degrees. It’s the Iowa winter. We have a very active weather pattern and you just have to deal with it.”
For a preview of Panthers vs. Cancer, look for an interview with girls basketball players Natalie Collins, Brittany Bacorn, and Anna Buttell from this past week’s Today’s Lely Radio Sports Page on kniakrls.com in Today’s Local Sports. 95.3 KNIA will also broadcast the Panthers vs Cancer games including the honors ceremony in between games. Today’s athletic events for Knoxville have also been called off that includes the Wrestling Squad’s trip to Centerville.
