While gusty winds have slowed a bit from their peak on Saturday, continuing travel concerns are expected today on rural roads in south central Iowa. The Marion County Road Department requests additional patience as major snow drifts have caused traffic issues on both paved and gravel roads, especially in areas that were fully exposed to breezy conditions during Friday’s blizzard. The 7-10″ of snow that fell on top of the 8-12″ recorded earlier in the week made for uniquely challenging conditions as it related to clearing roads. Travel is still not advised for some until Monday, and many roads will remain impassable until coordinated clearing from county crews can occur.
