The Knoxville Police Department will reevaluate the city sidewalk ordinance today, as temperatures start to rise.
The department hasn’t been citing citizens for not having their sidewalks clear due to the extreme cold temperatures. Current city code states that sidewalks need to be cleaned within 24 hours after snow/ice has stopped falling. If the snow isn’t removed the city will do so and a bill for the work is sent to the property owner. However, this has not been in effect since the last snow fall due to dangerously low temperatures but the police department will now look to reevaluate this today.
