The Indianola City Council held a work session Tuesday evening regarding the spring and fall cleanup programs run by the city. City Manager Ben Reeves tells KNIA News due to the rising costs of implementing the program, there needed to be a discussion about finding a creative way to keep the popular program running while also not being a burden on the budget and taxpayers.
“It helps us from a code enforcement aspect, because when we give a way for people to take care of their unsightly things it helps keep the community clean and beautiful. The issue and concern we are running into is costs are going up substantially. Labor has gone up, trucks have gone up, so as we’ve gone out to bid, we are seeing the costs increase. We are just trying to figure out a way to deal with that in such a way that we can still provide this essential service to the community.”
