The Marion County Roads Department released a statement about their efforts to clear area roadways after the multiple rounds of snowfall received across South Central Iowa.
On the week of January 8th, Marion County received 18”+ of snowfall followed by a couple of days of blizzard conditions resulting in severe drifting. In the statement, Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian thanked his employees for their sacrifice and dedication to the snow removal efforts over the past two weeks. Christian also stated that with Thursday’s snow event, employees are approaching nearly four weeks’ worth of work in a two-week period. In the statement, the Roads Department also thanked the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers and Deputies for their constant communication, cooperation, and understanding of the situations being faced. The Roads Department also thanked Marion County Emergency Management and the first responders throughout the County for their patience and cooperation during urgent times.
Christian added in the statement that the goal for the remainder of the week is to widen roads to the best of their ability, prepare for more snow, and start making accommodations for the forecast next week.
