Construction of the new gymnasium at Melcher-Dallas High School is still on schedule to be completed this spring.
Melcher-Dallas Superintendent Scott Bridges said that the project was originally scheduled to be completed in late May, but should be done in time to hold graduation on May 12th. According to Bridges, the HVAC units to heat and cool the gym have been installed and should be fired up for the first time this coming week. Bridges adds that the biggest remaining phase of the project is laying down the gym floor, which will start after the HVAC units have been in operation for a week.
“All the parts and pieces are in the gym. They’re sitting in there getting acclimated to the temperature. I think they’re actually going to put the sub flooring down within the next week, and then after the HVAC is up and running for a week, they’ll do a moisture check on the lumber for the floor and make sure that it is within the threshold and it should be for installation and if it is they’re gonna start installing that. So, within maybe two weeks the gym floor is going to start going down.”
