The PCM girls and boys basketball teams defeated West Marshall on the road Friday night in a Heart of Iowa Conference varsity doubleheader.

The Mustang girls picked up a 52-47 win over the Trojans to move to 10-4 overall on the season and 6-2 in the conference. The PCM girls were led in scoring on the night by junior Addison Steenhoek who had 15 points and sophomore Tori Lindsay who had 13. PCM coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez said it was a gritty win and she wants to see her team continue to get better everyday.

“Whether we win, whether we lose as long as we get better. We play some tough teams. If you come out on top great, if you come out on bottom but you still got better that’s all we’re worried about. I think they have just really bought in. The last couple years I think we’ve just learned that lesson. It’s not about wins and losses. It’s about how we’re playing, how we’re feeling, how we’re growing and this team is growing right now. I’m really excited to see what we can do with the last few.”

The PCM boys won their contest 55-43 to move to 7-7 overall on the season and 4-4 in the conference. The Mustang boys found themselves down 25-20 going into half, but outscored the Trojans 19-4 in the third quarter to gain all of the momentum down the stretch to pick up the big road conference win. The PCM boys were led in scoring on the night by senior Jake Wendt who had 16 points. PCM boys coach Tony Ford was happy with his team’s win and he hopes to see his boys continue to improve.

“Anytime we touch that floor we just have to get better than we were yesterday. If they can look at themselves when they walk off the floor at the end of the day and they are like I’m a little bit better, we know good things are going to happen. We still have that goal of wanting to get over .500 this year and I think we can do it.”

The PCM girls and boys will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Saydel.
