Finally, the Knoxville Basketball Squads will be able to play games. After two weeks of postponing games and canceling practices due to winter weather and severe cold temperatures, the weather is breaking to the point that fans and players can get out and Monday is more than just a couple of games as it is the rescheduled Panthers vs. Cancer event that was supposed to be played on January 12th. While the boys and girls will play Clarke in two big South Central Conference games, the main focus is raising money and awareness for the fight against Cancer. Girls Coach Matt Ritchhart tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the auction last week went well, and he is looking forward to a special on Monday.
Ritchhart: “We will have the honoree ceremony and some things in between halftime of the girls and boys games with performances. The auction went well, we raised around $7,000 on that, and with T-shirt sales we may be right at or hopefully just ahead of where we were last year, so it’s going to be a very special night.”
This is a big game for both boys and girls as the girls are trying to stay within striking distance of the top of the South Central Conference standings at 5-2 while the boys are looking to keep in 1st place and play the revenge game against the Indians as Clarke represents the Panthers’ lone loss in the conference play this season. Live coverage is on 95.3 KNIA at 6:15, audio will also be provided on the KHS Activities You Tube Channel.
