The 2024 Knoxville Panthers vs. Cancer games and honoree ceremony were held Monday night at Knoxville High School.
The event took place after the original date of the event was postponed due to weather. The evening included a girls and boys basketball doubleheader against Clarke, along with a ceremony in-between games to honor those who have been affected by cancer. Natalie Collins and Anna Buttell, who play on the Knoxville girls team, were honored at halftime for Natalie’s fundraising efforts for the Knoxville Cancer Relay and Anna being a cancer survivor herself. Jeff Vance was the special honoree on the night, as a story he wrote was read aloud about his journey in beating cancer. There was also a check presented to the American Cancer Society for $50,500 from the Knoxville Cancer Relay, and a check presented to Knoxville Hospital and Clinics from a racing tee fundraiser. Knoxville girls basketball coach Matt Ritchhardt is thankful for the community’s support to make this event happen.
“To have something like this in Knoxville is amazing. It’s one of those things we’re really known for. I can’t thank the community enough for all of the support they do. Whether it’s the Panthers vs. Cancer or the cancer relay, it’s just really truly a special thing.”
The total amount raised from the 2024 Knoxville Panthers vs. Cancer event will be announced at a later date. All of the money raised will go to the new infusion center at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
