The Pella School Board reviewed budget package priority results from the Long Range Planning Committee and new budget projections based on another series of early retirements at their meeting Monday.

Presentations were given as the board prepares to reduce general fund spending by approximately $1.3 million. To begin the meeting, the board approved five additional early retirees, which would total 26 staff members and administrators participating, 22 of whom leaving after the 2024-25 school year. The total cost savings if all of those positions are replaced will be approximately $475,000 annually, meaning the board will look for nearly $800,000 in cuts over the next two fiscal years, and they will likely draw from this list.

The board also reviewed results from a culture and climate survey from Humanex, approved of an audit request proposal, and received a presentation about the profile of Area Education Agencies and how they impact the district.
