The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in two sessions on Tuesday.
In the morning regular session the board heard a presentation from Holmes Murphy regarding the fiscal year 2025 employee benefit renewal, a presentation from IMPACT about a community action annual partnership update and support request, and a Marion County librarian annual update and support request. The board also approved engineering services with Kirkham, Michael & Associates for the 168th Place Bridge Preliminary Design, and a discussion was held with County Engineer Tyler Christian regarding a Weiler reclaimer purchase and potential joint ownership but no action was taken.
In the afternoon session, the board kicked off their 2024-2025 fiscal year budget session. The board spent time in this session reviewing highlights for the upcoming budget, the budget for the county road department, and for IMPACT. It was stated by the board that the taxable valuation of the county is just shy of $2 million dollars which is up 5% from last year, and that the new tax levy countywide will be 9.55% which is the lowest number over the last decade. The Marion County Board of Supervisors will meet in another special session today to continue their 2024-2025 fiscal year budget discussions.
