The Pella Christian basketball teams celebrated homecoming Friday night, and added to the fun with a sweep over Grand View Christian in a doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Eagle girls kicked-off the twin bill with a 63-37 victory, before the Class 2A #6 Pella Christian boys ended the night with a hard fought 53-51 win.

The Eagle girls opened the night with a statement, building up a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Pella Christian kept that momentum into halftime, adding another 21 points to lead 42-8 at the intermission, before cruising the rest of the way for the 26-point win. Contributing to the offensive outburst was the Eagles three-point shooting. Pella Christian made eight three-pointers in the first half and rained in 11 total threes on the night. The Eagle girls put four players in double figures, with Chloe Snyder leading the way with 14 points. Jessa De Vries added 13 points in the win, while Karis Fikkert and Faith Kacmarynski each recorded 11 points. Pella Christian improved to 6-10 overall with the victory.

The nightcap featured a clash of powers in Class 2A, and after the Thunder opened with a 7-1 lead, the Eagles battled back with a 13-5 run to lead 14-12 at the end of the first quarter. Another late quarter run gave Pella Christian a 31-25 lead at the break, but Grand View Christian responded with a 20-8 third quarter to lead 45-39 heading into the final eight minutes. The game remained tight down the stretch, but Josiah Vos’ three pointer with 1:27 left in the game put the Eagles ahead for good as they held on for the two-point win. Vos led the scoring effort for Pella Christian with 21 points, while Tysen De Vries added 11 as the Eagles improved to 11-4 overall.

The Pella Christian boys return to the court for the first of four games next week on Monday with a road trip to West Branch, while the Eagle girls are off until Tuesday’s doubleheader at Newton.
